Poet After Blues

Good evening, that wonderful way again.
Perhaps I'll start a nightly entry.
The morning after blues from my head down to my where?
Over there.
That blue is for the morning sky, the shade of blue that wipes The Blues away.
Night sky here.
Clearly it's clear I'll talk about the moon. Part of my standard repertoire.
So, I'll be mooning you tonight.
Perhaps that spoiled the poetic moon mood.
Though, the moon has a sense of humor.
Didn't you know?
Cracks the ocean up, sends her laughter in waves, drowns out her sorrows with puns.
The moon is, after all, the sphere of poets.
Poets and puns, neither would exist without the other.
The answer to much of America's question: "What use is a poet?"
We tell you what your words mean.
More than greeting card aisle stuff, we give definition to everything you say.
Think we ought to be seen as worth more.
Think you have a hard time understanding your neighbor? Think the news looks nothing like your life? Think the words they use are wrong?
Think poets get little recognition?
Know they're all in the same box of National Ill.
It's not just the concise lines of words that paint new pictures in the mind. It's the way of thought. It's new ways of looking at everyday, new ways of expression.
It's flexing our words to make sure they mean all they can.
If words don't mean what they could, they don't mean what they should.
And if they don't mean what they should we can't understand each other no matter how hard we try.
If you're thirsty it doesn't matter how hard you try to turn on the faucet if there's no water in the pipes.
If the word is empty of your meaning it doesn't matter how loud you shout it, who you say it to, or where.
You won't be heard.
Big words suffer most.
Anything ending with -ism, doesn't mean what it should.
Nationalism, Rationalism, Sensationalism, Commercialism, Racism, Feminism, Multi-culturalism, Hedonism, even Pragmatism is very unpragmatic.
Poets do away with -isms.
And 'it.'
A poet's first job is to define: 'it.'
What is it?
Oh, it's something new.
Hand it over to The Poets.
That's a better world that does that.
If you define that 'it' yourself, congratulations you are a poet.
All of us are the poets of our own Name.
Save yourself from dying an 'it,' have a better night, see you at Sunrise, whatever time that is now.
